Google Ads Transparency Center

Google's public archive of ads from verified advertisers - shows each ad's creative, format, region and last-shown date, but no spend or targeting.

You want to know what a competitor is running on Google. You type their brand name into the Transparency Center and get nothing, or you get a stranger’s ads. The brand you searched for is verified under a legal entity you have never heard of, and the dates sitting next to each ad are not the dates you assume they are.

The Transparency Center is Google’s public archive of ads from verified advertisers, launched in March 2023 and searchable by anyone without a Google Ads account, per Google’s own announcement. It is the Google-side counterpart to the Meta Ad Library. For each ad it shows the creative, the format, the broad region, and the date it was last shown.

Every Google teardown on this site is built from it. That means its blind spots are ones we have run into repeatedly, and most of them are not in the help page.

Every date is a last-shown date

The single field most people misread is the date. Google’s Transparency Center shows when an ad was last shown, not when it launched, a caveat we flag in every Google teardown. An ad last shown in April 2025 probably is not running today; one last shown in March 2026 probably is.

In our Magic Spoon Google teardown, only 27 of 109 ads carried a last-shown date in March 2026 — the days the data was pulled. The other 82 were historical, scattered from March 2025 back to January 2026. Reading the whole archive as a list of live ads would have overstated the running account by roughly four to one.

There is no start date anywhere in the tool. A creative that has run continuously for two years and one launched last week look identical unless you pull the archive twice, months apart, and diff the overlap.

A March date does not mean a current offer

A last-shown date in the current month says the ad served recently. It says nothing about whether the offer still holds.

Fresh Clean Threads had a search ad last shown March 14, 2026 carrying a coupon code that had expired six months earlier, visible in its Google teardown. Little Sleepies ran a Fourth of July Shopping ad last shown March 20 — eight months after the holiday, one of several stale-seasonal ads in that account.

RYZE shows the other side of the same problem. Of 400 ads in its archive, only 28 were active, with the remaining 372 already killed, as its Google teardown breaks down. The archive is mostly a graveyard, and the last-shown date is the only thing separating the live plots from the dead ones.

Verification is per advertiser entity, and Google displays the legal or trademark name it verified rather than the consumer-facing brand, per its advertiser verification policy. Searching a brand name often returns nothing for exactly this reason.

Our Place surfaces in every Google record as LAGOM KITCHEN COMPANY — a name that appears in zero of its 703 ads’ customer-facing copy, as we found parsing the full account. Graza runs under Drupely Inc., its verified entity in the teardown. The brand’s own website domain is the search that returns the full set; the advertiser-name field frequently does not.

Four of Magic Spoon’s 109 ads declared any targeting

The tool exists for disclosure, not competitive analysis, so the fields a media buyer wants are the ones it drops. There is no spend, no keyword, no bid strategy, and no performance metric of any kind.

Targeting is mostly missing too. In the Magic Spoon account, only 4 of 109 ads declared demographic, location, or contextual targeting, and all four were active text ads. Graza was the exception across the series at 45 of 128 ads (35%) declaring it — so an empty targeting field is silence, not evidence that a campaign ran broad.

One gap sits further upstream. Unverified advertisers do not appear at all, so a competitor who has not completed Google’s identity verification is simply invisible here.
